Mirza Galib...Jagjit Singh at his best

Listening to Gazals... the mesmerising voice of Jagjit Singh... think the word mesmerising was coined when they heard him sing.

These are the set of gazals I would listen to as a teenager with all my family around in Delhi... specifically Sarita Vihar. My family, my massi's family, dim lights, post the famous shahi paneer, butter chicken, dal and naan dinner at massi's house and thereafter a session of gazals and drinks.

Wahi gazaleh aaj phir se sunh rahi hoon
faraq itnah hai ki aaj mehfil nahi hai

Its raining outside, the chill is starting to set in ahead of the winters, it's dim lights and a nice mood to be listening to gazals. The song goes like this

Mohabbat mein nahi hai

faraq jeeneh aur marne ka

Usi ko dekh kar jeeteh hai
jis kafir pe dum nikleh

Bahut nikleh mere arman
lekin phir bhi kam nikleh
