A celebration of being a woman

“A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.” --- Eleanor Roosevelt

Read this quote off my new year women’s calendar. Not that I am a feminist of any sort to have bought a new year calendar meant for women, but a realization over time that women are essentially very gifted individuals and womanhood for me is a celebration over a life time. So when I read this quote off the 3rd January page, it struck me as poignant. Every time any person faces an extremity or urgency of any nature - relationship, job, self esteem, we just come out stronger. The weaknesses and fears that we have harbored for long, give way to a stronger us, a more interested us. Ever more so for women.

I am currently reading this book called ‘What happy women know’ by Dan Baker. It was interesting to read that just by genetic make up women are tuned different from men. Things that are deemed important by us may not be the case with the other sex. Probably something that we already know, considering the nature of fights we pick up between the two sexes, but it was interesting to read how genetically the same holds true and the very background of evolution has promoted and supported this response in women.

So for women… being protected, being insecure without a partner, with relationships to bind them are a form of genetic evolution… being unhappy by just material success is natural to them. And when they are subjected to extremity of this nature, they react very strongly. The response seems stronger considering the fact that they never needed to respond at all for any reason similar in life before. Men have always fought the basic battles of survival… with the external world. Women were always meant to nurture and deal with the struggles of her internal small world. Hence this quote really struck at the essence of it.

It’s beautiful how reading livens up our life and writing livens up our soul.
